Case: Apex Houston, CA

Source: Barge Apex Houston.

Release: Approximately 25,000 gallons of San Joaquin Valley crude oil.

The spill killed approximately 9,000 seabirds, including 6,000 common murres (Uria aalge). Marbled murrelets and cassin's auklet were also affected. Several seabird breeding sites were affected, including the common murre colony at Devil's Slide Rock, just south of San Francisco, which was abandoned after the spill.
