Case: Lake Washington, Louisiana

Source: Pipeline

Release: Approximately 41,790 gallons of crude oil

Primary Injury:

The Trustees, in cooperation with EMPCo and its representatives, conducted preassessment and assessment activities to determine the nature and extent of potential injuries to trust resources in Lake Washington associated with the pipeline discharge. Analyses of shoreline habitat and field observations of salt marshes and birds were used to assess the ecological impact from the oil discharge. The total area of marsh affected by the incident was 259 acres. Twenty-three Lesser scaup (Aythya affinis) in the vicinity of the discharge location also were oiled and died.
