Several EPA Superfund and other hazardous waste sites are located within the
Elliott Bay/Duwamish River area, including Harbor Island and Wyckoff/Eagle
Harbor The Trustees are also closely involved in the development of cleanup
activities for these and other waste sites ( EPA NPL and Washington Department
of Ecology , and RCRA activities) in Elliott Bay and the Duwamish River and are
evaluating the need to conduct restoration to address natural resource injuries
and service losses resulting from releases of hazardous substances. These
activities are being conducted as part of a Lower Duwamish River case effort.
The Trustees are participants in the Elliott Bay/Duwamish River Restoration
Program, an interagency program formed as a result of a settlement with King
County and the City of Seattle. The program was established to implement the
sediment remediation, habitat development, and source control provisions of the
consent decree.
