The Tulalip Landfill, built on a low-lying island in the Snohomish River delta in Marysville, Washington, destroyed more than 145 acres of wetland habitat. The landfill is also thought to have adversely affected nearby wetland habitat, water quality, and the invertebrates, fish, and birds that live and feed in the area.

As a co-trustee for coastal resources, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), through its Damage Assessment, Remediation and Restoration Program, is ensuring that the public's natural resource interests are fully restored and protected.
