Restoration Activities
Case: Mattiace Petrochemical,
NY
The Trustees reached a settlement agreement with the potentially responsible
parties (PRPs) that was formalized in a Consent Decree in June 2003. The PRPs
forwarded $194,156.53 to the trustees to compensate for the habitat
degradation. Of those funds, $155,000.00 is available for restoration
activities, and the balance for project planning, implementation, and
monitoring. The Trustees have identified several potential projects for
consideration as the preferred restoration project. The National Oceanic and
Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) , the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS),
and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC)
published public notice inviting comments on the
Draft Restoration Plan and Environmental Assessment (RP/EA) in June
2006. The public comment period has ended.
