Remedial/Injury Assessment
Case: Cold Spring Harbor Barge, NJ

The area where the incident occurred is heavily industrialized, as is much of the Arthur Kill. Two days after the spill, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) collected oil samples upstream, downstream and directly adjacent to the barge. There were no reports of any oiled wildlife or any commercial or recreational closures as a result of this spill. NOAA estimated damages resulting from water column exposure using a computer model.

A cooperative assessment was conducted by the responsible party, Greater New York Marine Transportation LLC, and the trustees to determine injury to natural resources and produce a plan for restoring injured resources.
